From Reactive to Resilient: Effectively Managing Our Changing Microalgal Communities
Collaborating for Safer Waters Through Long-Term Algal Monitoring
For this project, TAKT will be collecting samples for Cawthron. The project is about getting a better understanding of the algae which are in our waters. Some algae are beneficial, but some produce toxins which cause paralytic shellfish poisoning.
Sample collecting equipment will be deployed in the Little Waihi estuary. This is a five-year project funded by MBIE. We participate in Zooms and wānanga with iwi around the motu. It is really fulfilling to link up with other kaitiaki who are coastal.
This project dovetails nicely with our own PSP Tohu research.
